Lycanthropia: Today's Forgotten English Word Of The Day Dec. 24th, 2009 @ 06:32 pm

My page-a-day calendar has this to say today:

"Olaus Magnus,...archbishop of Upsal and metropolitan of Sweden, relates in his History that at the festival of Christmas in the cold northern parts there is a strange mutation of men into animals. He says that at a certain place previously resolved upon amongst themselves there is a gathering of a huge multitude of wolves that are changed from men who, during that night rage with such fierceness against mankind and other creatures not fierce by nature, that the inhabitants of that country suffer more hurt from them than ever they do from true natural wolves. These wolves labour to break down doors that they may destroy the inmates and descend into the cellars, where they drink out whole tuns of beer or mead, leaving the empty barrels heaped one upon another.
-William Hone's Year Book of Daily Recreation, 1832"

There's also a lovely drawing of a smirking wolf-man in a tailcoat.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

For the first time in many years, I find my hairstyle to be unconstrained by the unforeseeable and ever-changing needs of the UCSB Theater Department.

Time for a haircut.  Get ready.

Brittany Murphy died?!

Of a fucking HEART ATTACK?!

She was THIRTY-TWO.

I find myself hoping that there are other causes involved, because her just dropping in her tracks is way too scary.

Life is so fragile.  And today, I'm especially glad to be a participant.

We should set a date to practice "Twelfth Month" carols. How about this Saturday, or early Sunday?

My Aunt and Mom are going to the Dickens Fair this Sunday; if we're super prepared, we could meet them in the city and carol at Ghiradelli Square. Pirates, what do you think?

Also, my family organizes a massive Luminaria on Christmas Eve that draws performers and carolers. Perhaps we could meet for an hour or two to carol down the candle-lit lanes?

It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas Dec. 17th, 2009 @ 12:25 am

In other news, I added a bunch of links to my website this weekend. Now you can click on the titles of the films I've done (note that "films" is used in the loosest possible sense, and that it is a plural because there are two of them) and actually WATCH THE FILMS ON YOUR HOME COMPUTER. Also, the "favorites" page has been considerably bulked up.

The HDK link leads to the sad fascimile of the home page that I built, which looks nothing like it does in the browser preview. It's moments like these when I realize that my understanding of Dreamweaver is extremely superficial.

Happy Things Smelling Like Pine Trees, everyone! More pictures to come soon, including (hopefully) a few from the bridal jewelry photoshoot I did in SF a few weeks ago. Wahoo!

...is the author of The Arrival, which I showed a few of you about a week ago. It's a gorgeous book, highly worth reading. Well, he wrote (and drew) a short story for the Guardian a few months ago and it's pretty wonderful, too.

Clearing stuff out of room. Found this scrawled on a notebook.

"If you could be anything right now, what would it be?"
"... an armchair."
"... I meant, like, career-wise."

When shall we meet to sing and learn carols?

I'm free this Sunday. I'm pretty sure my house is also free, if we want to meet in the afternoon.

We'll meet at 4:00, then eat, then go the FREE holiday concert the Presbyterian Church of Berkeley.
